Following consultation with our Governing Body, the difficult decision was made to no longer recruit into our Sixth Form and to close this provision when all of our current students have finished their courses in the summer of 2018.
Over the last two years we have worked incredibly hard to deliver a credible and financially sustainable Sixth Form at Baysgarth. We have teamed up with John Leggott College to ensure that our students have been able to access support and expertise from one of the top 10 performing colleges in the country. However, despite our best efforts we have not been able to recruit enough students to make the Sixth Form financially viable. The government has cut funding for post-16 students in school sixth forms by over 25% over the last three years and this means that small school sixth forms like ours are no longer financially viable.
To ensure we reach our vision of driving Baysgarth forwards to become an Outstanding school for generations to come, we must do it from a sound financial footing, and by making this tough decision we can focus on our Year 7-11 students, without subsidising the Sixth Form.
We are committed to ensuring every one of our current Sixth Form students receives the best possible start in life and they will be completely unaffected by this decision.
