Key Stage 4
The Key Stage 4 curriculum is designed to build on the learning experiences that children had in Key Stage 3 and allows some personalisation through the Options process.
Our Key Stage 4 curriculum is delivered over three years, which we believe will increase the chances of long-term success for our students and the school.
There is a core curriculum of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science and PE, which all students will study. Students are then able to select option subjects from a range of subjects.
We introduce curriculum pathways at Key Stage 4 to support and guide students, ensuring they have access to the right courses to ensure they can progress into their next stage of learning in employment, training or at a Post-16 educational provision.
Most students will continue to study a Modern Foreign Language and either Geography or History, allowing them to meet the demands of the English Baccalaureate.
To ensure sufficient stretch and challenge for our most able students a high number will follow a Triple Science programme.
The standard KS4 curriculum model is as follows:
Subject | Number of Lessons per week |
---|---|
English | 4 |
Maths | 4 |
Science | 4 |
Option A | 3 |
Option B | 3 |
Option C | 3 |
Option D | 3 |
Core PE | 1 |
