Key Stage 3
The Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to build on the learning experiences that children had in their primary schools. We work in close partnership with our primary schools to ensure that students have the opportunity to work with Baysgarth school staff prior to joining the school via our Transition programme.
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum ensures a strong focus on developing the new subject specific knowledge required as well developing key skills for learning. Students will follow the national curriculum and study English, Maths, Science, Design and Technology, PE, Geography, History, RE, Computer Science, French and German, Music and Art.
The statutory requirement for RE as advised by SACRE is taught in discrete RE lessons in Years 7 & 8, supplemented by the ICE and tutor time programme. There is a focus both on religions of the world and culture, ethics and world problems in preparation for the GCSE Philosophy and Ethics course which is offered as an option from Year 9 onwards.
The standard curriculum model at Key Stage 3 is as follows:
|Subject||Number of Lessons per week|
|Design & Technology||2|
|Modern Foreign Languages||2|
However, we differentiate our curriculum for our most able students and those who need more support. Our most able students study a second language whereas those who need more support take extra English and Maths instead of languages.
