Mental health and wellbeing is a key priority at Baysgarth and we are proud of the work we have undertaken both with students and staff in this year. We believe positive mental health is the key to having happy and successful students, who are well prepared to take their next steps in life.
The school has invested significantly in this area, for example, with Learning Managers for all Houses, staff mental health champions, student mental health ambassadors and we are the only school in North Lincolnshire to have a counsellor on site for the majority of the time.
The school continues to invest in mental health and wellbeing, but the need is growing for additional support with GP services, CAMHS and private counsellors reducing their services within our local area and waiting lists are growing longer.
To support parents and students during the summer break, we have brokered some private appointments with our counsellor, Sally Whittingham, on Wednesdays from 9am to 3pm. The first sessions will be held on Wednesday 1st August and will run until Wednesday 29th August. These sixty minute appointments are not funded by the school and are therefore treated as private appointments that the schools brokers to allow you to get a discounted price of £30 per hour.
In September the waiting list for counselling is very lengthy and the students are prioritised on need and meeting our threshold. We are hoping for those students who don’t meet the threshold to get a school funded appointment for there to be the opportunity for you to buy into the service on a weekly basis. Further details will be sent in September, following evaluation of the summer programme. Your child will be informed over the next week if they have an appointment with Sally next year. If your child is not sure then please direct them to their Learning Manager or Sally, who will be able to help.
If you think that your child would benefit from this provision throughout the summer, you can request to book a session by contacting the school via email@example.com by Friday 20th July, detailing your preferred date and time – please note, appointments are bookable on the hour, i.e. 9am, 10am and so on. Payments will need to be submitted via the secure, online payment system, ParentPay (www.parentpay.com). Each sixty minute session is £30 and it is recommended that your child has one session per week, where possible. Sessions are to be paid for in advance, and will not take place if payment has not been received.
Sessions will be held in school and students will be asked to arrive at the main reception 10 minutes before their scheduled appointment time, from where they will be collected.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Learning Manager, or myself, at the school.
