Progress 8: Baysgarth School - Simply the Best!

17th October 2019

Today, the Department for Education (DfE) has released the comparison league tables for schools, based on their 2019 results. Baysgarth are once again, for the fourth consecutive year, top of all the local schools. This year we have even surpassed our nearest Outstanding school, South Hunsley, for the progress we make with our students.

Parents and prospective students can see the results for themselves on the government website:

https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/schools-by-type?step=default&table=schools®ion=all-england&for=secondary&show=All%20pupils%202019

This section of the website ranks schools against each other according to the government’s preferred method of comparing schools, Progress 8. Baysgarth School is ranked at 575 out of 6489 schools, putting it in the top 9% of schools in the country.

This section of the website allows parents to compare the performance of schools in a local authority, or search for a particular school. This is a tool to help prospective parents choose the right school for their child.

We have reproduced the headline measures here to show parents how Baysgarth has performed against local schools and against all other schools in the local authority. These two tables show performance in summer 2019:

Headteacher, Richard Briggs, said “Obviously we are over the moon about our results this summer. They are our best ever set of results and show the dedication and commitment of our wonderful students, staff and parents. However, I am even more proud of the fact that this is sustained performance - this is no flash in the pan and for five years running we have been the premier school in the area for outcomes. With our outstanding outcomes and outstanding care for students, combined with our amazing facilities, it is no wonder we have more students wanting to come to Baysgarth than we have places available every year. Our next challenge is to look at how we can expand the school to accommodate everybody who puts Baysgarth down as their first choice”.

The following two tables underline how Baysgarth has consistently outperformed other local schools for the progress we make with our students. They look at performance over the last four years, again comparing local schools and those in the local authority:
