Former student to have artwork displayed in 2020 Open Exhibition at the Ferens Gallery!
10th January 2020
We are incredibly excited and proud to announce that former Baysgarth student, Holly Tomlinson, has been selected as one of the artists to exhibit their work in the 2020 Open Exhibition at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull.
When made aware of the prestigious opportunity, Holly was inspired to submit a piece of art she had created for her Art GCSE in 2019 into the competition. The painted portrait chosen depicts a personal friend of Holly’s and was a remastered piece, reworked for her exam using new techniques and skills.
Holly, who is currently studying Art, Applied Science and Combined English in her first year at John Leggott College, has always had a keen interest in Art, in particular still life, which she enjoys creating and will continue to focus on during her studies.
Holly submitted her application last autumn and was amongst 600 other artists in the competition. The gallery received 1,483 entries in total from both amateur and professional artists, from which only 400 were selected for exhibition. Holly, at only 16 years of age, is one of the youngest artists to feature in the exposition. The annual Open Exhibition offers an opportunity for local artists to display their artwork in a beautiful contemporary space, which includes a diverse range of pieces in a variety of styles and media across the creative spectrum. Many pieces will be available to purchase.
Holly’s Art Teacher, Miss Matthews, said “During her time at Baysgarth, Holly proved herself to be an extraordinarily talented and dedicated artist. Throughout her GCSE course she worked tirelessly, constantly striving to challenge her skills and achieve astounding artworks. Everyone in the Art Department would like to wish Holly a huge congratulations on her success in being accepted into the Ferens exhibition- there could not be a more deserving student”.
The 2020 Open Exhibition will premier on Friday 14th February (7.00pm to 10.00pm) and will open to the public the following day, until Sunday 26th April at the Ferens Art Gallery, Queen Victoria Square, Carr Lane, Hull, HU1 3RA. #FerensOpen
A massive congratulations to Holly! We are sure she has a bright future in the Art world.
