Curriculum
Curriculum
At Headway, our approach to the curriculum is student-centred, ensuring we develop a varied curriculum to meet the needs of our students. They come to us from across Key Stage 3 and 4 and potentially from a range of schools. This means our curriculum needs to focus on student needs first.
Our students are often struggling to succeed and are disengaged from their learning. They often come to us following poor experiences with education and their self esteem is damaged. We understand this cycle and we aim to address it within our curriculum, building on their success to improve their confidence, ready to transition back into mainstream.
In order for this to happen, we must understand and address any barriers to learning. We therefore need to provide a curriculum that is relevant and accessible, but which has the breadth and depth for them to rapidly improve their Literacy, Numeracy and problem solving skills. Therapeutic support is woven into the curriculum in addition to support with any social and emotional barriers.
